Where history and nature meet

In Menorca you can do various activities, from discovering the seabed, horse riding or cycling, immersing yourself in its cultural and archaeological heritage... and all of this, always, with a postcard background, that of its clean and crystal-clear blue waters.

Take the car and we begin the route:

  • Ciutadella de Menorca: Located at the western end of the island, it is the old capital of Menorca. Walking through its cobbled streets you will find the old town and in it, Es Born, the old parade ground, where you will also find the Town Hall, the Salort Palace and the Vivó Palace, characteristic for its neoclassical style with typical decorations of the island. If you continue through the city centre you will also be able to see the monumental Cathedral and religious buildings such as the Convent of Santa Clara and the Cloister of the Socors church.
  • Ciutadella is not the only town that will make you fall in love on this trip. Mahón, the current capital of Menorca, Binibeca, a fishing village, Son Bou, with the largest beach area on the entire island, Fornells, where you can enjoy the best lobster stew... are other places that you definitely have to mark on your map.
  • An open-air museum: That's right, in Menorca you will see the vestiges of the history that passed through it, archaeological finds that are still preserved, such as megalithic monuments; taulas, talayots and navetas.
  • Menorca is a treasure full of coves to discover, because no, not all beaches here are the same. Some of these gems that you cannot miss are Cala Turqueta, Cala Tortuga, Cala Macarella, Cala des Talaier, Cala Mitjana... and we could go on, but better yet, discover them yourself!
  • If you like nature, it is possible that after this trip you will want to stay and live in Menorca. The island was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1993, among other things, for the richness of its landscape. A diversity of Mediterranean habitats in which animals and plants characteristic of the island live.

The taste of the authentic and the natural

Menorcan gastronomy is not at all pretentious, quite the opposite. Simple, tasty, with fresh seasonal products from the countryside and the sea that go straight to the dish. Traditional cuisine, thanks to which it has managed to proclaim itself as the European Region of Gastronomy 2022.

Here are some dishes to whet your appetite:

  • Berenjena rellena, straight from the garden to the oven. The most traditional recipe is stuffed with various vegetables that are covered with breadcrumbs, garlic and parsley.
  • A must is the Caldereta de langosta, typical of Fornells as we have already mentioned above. It is a seafood dish with a base of sautéed vegetables, thin slices of bread, with seafood or different fish and topped, of course, with lobster.
  • Cheese is one of the most international products of Menorca, in fact in 1985 they obtained the designation of origin for the “Queso de Mahón”. It is characterized by its artisanal production and its famous “fogassa” shape.
  • Although the cheese has its fame, the meat products are not far behind. The pork sausages are rich and varied, especially the sobrasada, the cuixot, the camaillot or the white and black blood sausages, a feast for your stomach!
  • We have not forgotten you, sweet tooth. The Menorcan bakeries are overflowing with sweets with French, Arabic and English aromas. Some must-try items are the Carquinyols, the Flaó de Menorca made of cheese with egg, the Amargos, pastries with almonds and a touch of lemon, the Crespells that you can eat during Holy Week, the Coca de San Juan… go to a bakery and ask for one of each, you have to try them all!
  • And of course, don't forget to accompany all this with the local wine, created in 2002. After many years without a wine tradition, Menorca has returned to the wine scene by recovering the tradition of its vineyards.

An island to enjoy at any time of the year

In each season of the year, Menorca presents a different landscape.

The coolest season lasts from February to April, with temperatures that do not fall below 8º and do not rise above 14º. The temperate season lasts from June to September, with highs of 26º and lows of 21º. Summers are short, hot and quite dry, always with a bright sun under which to tan yourself in one of its countless coves.

So, what are you taking in your suitcase? We'll tell you in advance, two basics: a swimsuit and a windbreaker.

If you go now in summer, the first thing you should pack is all the beach equipment, swimsuit, towel, cream, etc., its turquoise waters are already waiting for you! Of course, we recommend you take a windbreaker, just in case you get a cooler day.

In spring, the opposite is true. What you should not miss is a windbreaker and some warm clothing, but you may be lucky and get a sunny day, so add a swimsuit. A dip in the water at 15ºC won't hurt anyone.

Regardless of the time of year you go, what is certain is that this island will always welcome you with warmth. Its people, its gastronomy, its coves and its landscape embrace you from the first moment you set foot on this land. That Menorca has a special charm is undeniable.
